About Us

DRIWIND was established in the 1980's as a small hobby kennel, training, showing, and breeding Australian Shepherds. Driwind is a permanently registered kennel name with Australian Shepherd Club of America.

Though I'm no longer breeding or competing, our Aussies are still first and foremost our best friends and constant companions.

When we moved to El Paso we bought some property that was a little more rural than most of the neighborhoods. We want to have some room for the dogs to romp and play and so that I could set up agility and obedience obstacles. Haha! Little did I know!

Just two years later, after taking our granddaughter to visit a nearby alpaca ranch, I became the proud owner of two pregnant alpacas.

Down came the relatively new dog kennels! Up went fences and shelters!

The newly purchased girls had their crias (baby alpacas) late in the summer of 2006 and were rebred to deliver the following autumn.

Little did I expect we would have TWINS!

So as our tiny herd grew, almost doubling overnight, I found need for more fences much sooner than originally planned.

Care of the alpacas is often a family affair. Everyone joins in when nails and teeth need to be trimmer or medications given.

And in the evening even our granddaughter enjoys helping with chores when she's here visiting.

We're always happy to talk about alpacas and/or dogs.
